December Pittsburgh concerts
MUST-SEE SHOW:
12/12 Margot & the Nuclear So and So's @ Brillobox
December is always a slow concert month in the Burgh, but leave it to indie weirdoes Margot & the Nuclear So and So's to liven it up. "Cold, Kind and Lemon Eyes" has been in heavy rotation on our iPod lately. National shows at Brillobox sometimes sell out, so get your tickets ASAP.
ALSO WORTH ATTENDING:
12/5 Loretta Lynn @ Pepsi-Cola Roadhouse
I'm not sure that Loretta Lynn is a very good performer these days, but it's worth attending this show if only to see her sing material from 2004's Van Lear Rose, the brilliant record she recorded with Jack White. The songs were brutally personal and raw, like "Miss Being Mrs.," the story of her loneliness as a widow. The Roadhouse is an odd venue because they charge you for dinner, parking, and the concert ticket, so shows usually run in the $75 range. If you can shell it out, by all means do so!
12/26 Wu-Tang Clan @ Mr. Small's
The late Ol' Dirty Bastard won't be there (neither will Method Man, for that matter), but you 've still gotta be curious to see this group of misfits. I would start listing their greatest hits, but they didn't have any; their highest-charting single was "C.R.E.A.M.," which peaked at #60. But with Wu-Tang it was never about singles. They managed to be influential without massive hits. Besides, what else do you have going on the day after Christmas?
